NorthShore Health Centers’ pediatric doctors and nurses are committed to attainment of optimal physical, mental and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
NorthShore Health Centers’ Pediatric Department provides care for your children. This encompasses a broad spectrum of health services ranging from preventative health care to the diagnosis and treatment of acute/chronic diseases. Services include hospital visits for your newborn child, well baby and child office visits, immunizations, school and sports physicals, office and hospital visits for the sick, office visits for mild injuries, and chronic conditions.
The medical specialty of pediatrics is concerned with the development, care, and treatment of children from birth through adolescence. The focus is making sure children are scheduled for their well-child visits at the appropriate ages. At these visits the pediatric staff at NorthShore will make sure your baby is reaching each developmental milestone at the appropriate age. NorthShore provides immunizations for children free of charge for anyone who does not have health insurance coverage for this service. Acute illness is always addressed when your child is ill. Our staff can be reached anytime during our hours of operation to assist parents in deciding if they need to have their child assessed by our physician. Should hospitalization become necessary, the NorthShore pediatricians provide services at Porter Hospital in Valparaiso, St. Catherine’s in East Chicago, and Methodist Hospital in Gary and Southlake (Merrillville)
How It Works: Imagine that your baby’s healthcare visits were in a comfortable setting and that you had time to ask all of your questions, learn more about your baby’s health and development, and share with other parents that were experiencing similar things at the same time.CenteringParenting takes place in a group with 6-8 parent/baby pairs. Parents and babies meet in a group for 9 sessions starting with the baby’s one month well child checkup and ending with a birthday party when the babies turn age two. At each group, parents have the opportunity to weigh and measure their babies, take their own vitals, meet one on one with their baby’s pediatrician, and spend time discussing parenting concerns in a group. CenteringParenting is your baby’s well child visit, parent check up, and parenting education all in one appointment!
- More time with your pediatrician.
- No wait time. Groups start and end on time.
- Time to talk with other parents and share common concerns.
- Support and friendship plus play time activities with your baby.
- Having fun at checkups plus food to snack on.
NorthShore Health Centers’ policy is that a parent/guardian must fill out a consent form giving permission for another adult to accompany their child to the child’s medical, dental or vision appointments. For the protection of your child, we are no longer accepting written permission letters or verbal concept over the phone as acceptable documentation of minor consent. Please print out the Minor Consent Form below and return to any NorthShore Health Centers’ locations or stop by one of our locations for a copy of the form. Once you complete the form, it will be documented in the child’s file and referenced for all future appointments.
